TYPES OF SENTENCES

Types of Sentences by Structure

  • Compound Sentence - “I love chocolate, and I love eating chocolate.” Two or more independent clauses.
  • Complex Sentence – “I love chocolate because it’s decadent.” One independent clause and one or more dependent clauses (italicized). Note: according to Wikipedia, a sentence like “The dog chewed up the shoes that I just bought” is a simple sentence, not a complex sentence, because the relative clausethat I just bought” simply modifies the noun without performing any other function. I’m not sure how accurate this is, however.
  • Complex-Compound Sentence – “I love chocolate because it’s decadent, and I love eating chocolate because it’s delicious.” Two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.

Those four categories apply to normal, grammatical sentences. However, some of our most common expressions are sentences that don’t follow the rules — see Major and Minor Sentences.

Note: obsessive syntacticians (is there any other kind?) have also named more specific types of sentences, which I’ll address when I start learning about the finer points of writing style.

Types of Sentences by Purpose

  • Declarative Sentence – “I love chocolate.” Used to make a simple statement. Most sentences are declarative.
  • Imperative Sentence – “Please buy me some chocolate.” Used for commands, with the pronoun you always implied.

Oral presentation about Euthanasia

EUTHANASIA

EUTHANASIA

This practice is known as death without physical suffering "or " willfully caused death”. Euthanasia refers to any act or omission which, to avoid suffering the ill or terminal patients, accelerated his death with his consent. Euthanasia is designed to prevent unbearable suffering or the artificial prolongation of life. This practice is not new or recent. It is connected to the development of modern medicine. It is a practice that is prohibited in many countries. Throughout history it has been used as an excuse to concrete the elimination of social groups.

Euthanasia is a persistent problem in the history of humanity, which face different ideologies. Wake up all sorts of ethical debates. Some arguments in favor are:

Everyone is autonomous and has the right to decide about her life. The person as a patient has every right in making medical decisions relating to himself.
The Living Will document is a tool to regulate the medical action in situations where the patient loses the ability, at the time, to decide on the medical action regarding your health.
Our society is based on protecting human rights. Everyone has the right to decide on all matters relating to your body, for consistent, decide whether or not to live.

Life, under certain conditions, can become worthless, a condition that would violate the right to human dignity. There is no reason to accept a limited form of existence, which are sacrificed family and friends and to himself. A life that can not live is not a privilege, is a punishment. That makes the human being only one case of interest. It is not just the man to submit to painful situations, when you have the power to prevent it.

Moreover, in order to have a broader view of the chosen subject, some arguments against this practice are:

God is the only person that has the right to take away or give life not a doctor. If someone is terminally ill and in pain then doctors help with the pain, when the time is right God will decide when the person's life comes to an end.

If everyone decided to give in and die then where would the world be now in terms of medicine? There are several ways you can look at this question. Naturally the first way to look at it is from your own point of view you may feel that if life is not worthwhile to you any more as a result of let us say pain that is being suffered as a part of a terminal illness it makes sense that you should be able to say no more this is not worth putting up with any more so you get your medic or friend to help you shuffle the mortal coil so to speak. The first thing that will happen is that there will be specialists that will take care of this problem as most doctors would rather not have anything to do with this side of the patients treatment, After this it will be only a matter of time before euthanasia is allowed as a result of the patient having some time in the past alluded to their agreement to being euthanized after they had lost the ability to give express permission to have this done.

With an aging population more and more people are going to prove to be a drain on the treasuries coffers, so chances are that the government is going to be behind this as it will save them a lot of money. The next line of thinking will be that at a certain time the decision to terminate will be made by a board with the aid of the patent's doctor or doctors. This can put the power of life and death in the hands of a few medics.

In conclusion, euthanasia has been widely criticized practice of much debate among the people. What everyone should do in order to understand the euthanasia is placed on the role of the patient and close relatives. Evaluate to what extent human beings can make a decision as difficult as ending a life and to what extent we permit the killing of a family member, or at least until the point we have the courage to see the suffering of another person.

Topic: Globalization

English IV

Globalization: causes and effects

Globalization is the system of interaction among the countries of the world in order to develop the global economy. Globalization refers to the integration of economics and societies all over the world. Involves technological, economic, political, and cultural exchanges made possible largely by advances in communication, transportation, and infrastructure. Is the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network of political ideas through communication, transportation, and trade. The term can also refer to the transnational circulation of ideas, languages, or popular culture through acculturation.

We have all learned to live and deal with globalization; however, we rarely stop to consider the origin of this movement. The main causes that led to the development of this phenomenon are:

1. The importance of multinationals: Companies need support from their states to finance scientific and technological infrastructure, tax incentives, preferential access to public markets, and protection in trade negotiations.

2. Wishes from freer trade: the increasing interest of exporters in opening up domestic markets had a heavy weight at the beginning of globalization as it had so many barriers to international trade of goods, that the gains were minimal.

3. The technological revolution in production processes, information, telecommunications and transport.: The "Toyotismo" or flexible production system combines the advantages of craft production (product quality) with those of mass production (speed and low unit costs). Also the technological Innovations that lower the costs of moving goods and more notably information around the world.

On the other hand, in order to assess the impact of the phenomenon of globalization, these are the main effects:

  1. Greater Mobility of Human Resources across Countries. Globalization allows countries to source their manpower in countries with cheap labor. For instance, the manpower shortages in Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia provide opportunities for labor exporting countries such as the Philippines to bring their human resources to those countries for employment.

  1. Industrial Effect: emergence of worldwide production markets and broader access to a range of foreign products for consumers and companies. Particularly movement of material and goods between and within national boundaries. International trade in manufactured goods increased more than 100 times (from $95 billion to $12 trillion) in the 50 years since 1955. China's trade with Africa rose sevenfold during 2000-07 alone.

  1. Cultural Effect: growth of cross-cultural contacts; advent of new categories of consciousness and identities which embodies cultural diffusion, the desire to increase one's standard of living and enjoy foreign products and ideas, adopt new technology and practices, and participate in a "world culture". Globalization has influenced the use of language across the world. This street in Hong Kong, a former British colony, shows various signs, a few of which incorporate both Chinese and British English. Some bemoan the resulting consumerism and loss of languages. Spreading of multiculturalism, and better individual access to cultural diversity (e.g. through the export of Hollywood). Some consider such "imported" culture a danger, since it may supplant the local culture, causing reduction in diversity or even assimilation. Others consider multiculturalism to promote peace and understanding between people. A third position that gained popularity is the notion that multiculturalism to a new form of monoculture in which no distinctions exist and everyone just shift between various lifestyles in terms of music, cloth and other aspects once more firmly attached to a single culture.

In conclusion, we see the causes and consequences of globalization. The advantages and disadvantages of the phenomenon we define all of us, determining to what extent it affects us or to what extent we can deal with it without being overwhelmed and without losing our cultural essence; also, if we know who to deal with it, we will benefit in terms of knowledge and modernization.
