Task: Write an essay about Ethnic Conflicts.
Ethnic Conflicts
In many countries and many periods a person’s ethnic identity has had profound consequences for his or her physical safety, political status, and economic prospects. Violent confrontation along ethnic lines is the most apparent form of ethnic conflict, and it recently has claimed lives in such diverse places throughout the world. The three most terrible ethnic conflicts have been the conflict in Rwanda, in former Yugoslavia, and The Holocaust during World War II in Europe.
Below know a little more of each of these conflicts, first the conflict in Rwanda: Since the RPF invaded Rwanda on October 1990 and the neighboring Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) between 1996 and 1998 has occurred in both countries about seven million deaths. They are mostly Rwandan and Congolese, directly or indirectly caused by armed conflicts. This conflict is not just a story of power struggle between extremists and criminal elements, but also and above all, is a story of plunder and the fight for control of the exploitation of very rich natural resources of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, an initiative in which they participated, as well as local organizations, many western multinational corporations, mainly U.S., Canada and Europe. Much of this human and ecological drama has been deliberately hidden and often strategically manipulated. According to Linda Melvern, a British reporter who had access to official documents, the genocide was well planned. At the time of onset of slaughter, Rwandan militia was composed of 30,000 men (one member for every ten families) and organized throughout the country with representatives in every neighborhood. Some militia members could acquire assault rifles Ak-47 by completing a form. Other weapons such as grenades did not require any paperwork and distributed widely. Also according to Melvern, Prime Minister of Rwanda, Jean Kambanda, revealed that the genocide was openly discussed in cabinet meetings, and how a cabinet minister said he was "personally in favor of getting rid of all ... no Tutsi Tutsi all the problems of Rwanda disappear " these are just some of the reasons why development is the conflict in Rwanda during the second world war.
The second is the conflict of Yoguslavia: Yugoslav Wars were a series of conflicts on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, which occurred between 1991 and 2001. Involved two groups of successive wars affecting all six former Yugoslav republics. Alternative terms are used as the Balkan War, the War of the former Yugoslavia, Yugoslav Civil Wars or rarely Third Balkan War. The wars were characterized by ethnic conflicts between the peoples of the former Yugoslavia, mostly between Serbs on one side and Croats, Bosnians and Albanians on the other, although in principle between Bosnians and Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The conflict was due to political, economic and cultural, as well as religious and ethnic tension.
The Yugoslav wars ended with much of the former Yugoslavia reduced to poverty, massive economic disruption and persistent instability in the territories where the worst fighting occurred. The wars were the bloodiest conflicts on European soil since the end of World War II, resulting in some 300,000 deaths and millions more driven from their homes. They were also the first conflicts since World War II to have been formally judged genocidal and many of the key individuals involved were subsequently indicted for war crimes.
The third conflict during the World War II Holocaust in Europe, "Holocaust" is a Greek word meaning "sacrifice by fire." The Holocaust was the persecution and murder of six million Jews by the Nazi government. All this was done based on the belief that had the Germans were a superior race, and therefore the Jews were a race considered inferior and deserved to die. Besides Jews, the Germans considered the Roma racially inferior, disabled and some Slavic groups such as Poles and Russians. For political reasons, other groups were persecuted homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Communists and Socialists.
Before World War II began, the Germans had established concentration camps to imprison all persecuted groups.
During the war, the Nazis created ghettos, temporary detention camps and forced labor camps. In them, the Jewish population forced to live under miserable.
Between 1942 and 1944, the Nazis deported millions of Jews from the occupied territories to extermination camps, where they were executed in facilities designed specifically for it. The German Nazis forced the Jews to forced labor for the German government, and to wear badges that marked them as Jews. It is estimated that victims of this extermination died more than 6 million Jews, about 800,000 Gypsies than 4 million Soviet prisoners of war or victims of the occupation (they were also subject to systematic extermination), Polish and qualified individuals of asocial various nationalities (political prisoners, homosexuals, physically or mentally handicapped, criminals, etc.). The formal approaches are as follows: [according to ONU]
* Polish Jews (15.56%) and non-Jews (13.78%)
* German Jews (13.33%)
* Slavic (26.66%)
* Soviet prisoners of war (17.78%)
* Roma (3.56%) and German "Aryan" political opponents (usually people with ideas left and freethinkers) (6.67%)
* Disabled (1.34%)
* Gay (1.12%)
These are just some of the important data to the Holocaust in Europe.
Finally it is important to raise public awareness of the serious global human damage is done to address these types of conflict as the only thing that is gained in these situations is death and persecution of many people all we want is a peaceful coexistence with the world.
Ethnic conflicts such as in Rwanda, former Yugoslavia, and The Holocaust during World War II triggered the worst feelings a human being can have. Any country or society can go through such terrors. Different religion, race, and beliefs are not good reasons to kill each other. It depends on new generations not to repeat the terrible crimes against.
