Advantages and disadvantages of immigration

Migration is the movement of people from one place to another. Migration can be international (moving between different countries) or internal (movement within a country, often from rural to urban areas). People migrate for many different reasons. These reasons may be economic, social, political or related to the environment. for example some advantages that immigrants are migrants can make more money, migrants can have access to better medical services and other social welfare services in place to migrate and may have access to better education for their children. On the other hand, some disadvantages are: the work that is available may be temporary, unpredictable, dangerous or illegal, leaving behind the support networks of friends and family, and culture to which they are accustomed. Costa Rica in the 2000 census recorded 296.000 immigrants, of which 226.374 were Nicaraguans. Much more recently estimated the number of Nicaraguan migrants between 400.000 and 600.000, of which approximately 180,000 are illegal. In addition to the Nicaraguans there is a growing immigration of Colombian, Panamanian and Chinese. Finally we should remember what Consuelo Rumi said “The immigrant is not to blame for the crisis, is the most vulnerable victim" so we must be more human and understand their situation.

  1. Another reason for became an immigrant may be political asylum, Costa Rica had lots of people in that condition by the way. And as you mentioned the immigrants used to have several problems to find a job, that is why they make what Costa Rican does not want it to make, like manpower.
